Installing hardwood flooring in colder weather is fine as long as the homes inside temperature is between 65-75 degrees and the wood flooring has been allowed to acclimate within the home for approx 7 days prior to it being installed.

Hello
I just wanted to let everyone know that I am a contractor in northern Maine and work on a lot of folks summer homes where the temperature varies a lot because the summer homes are left to 50 degrees (or turned off) during the winter. What I do is to bring up the temperature to 65 degrees and let the wood flooring acclimate in the home for two weeks before installing it. I always leave an expansion gap all around the edges of the room. I have never had a problem. I have used both engineered and solid wood flooring.
