Topic: Need advice for a room with a wide step

I'd like to install a floating engineered wood floor in my dining room, and will need stair nosing on one side to handle a 12 foot wide step down into the sunken living room.

I'm thinking of ordering BR-111 click-lock flooring which has a butt type of stair nosing, and was wondering if that is a good choice in this situation.

Is a floating floor okay, or would I be better off with a floor that is nailed or glued down?

Do you recommend an overlapping type of stair nosing or a butt type of stair nosing?

I'd be grateful for any recommendations or suggestions.

Thanks for your help,
Shirl

Hi Shirl

If you do not mind using an overlap stair nosing (glued down in place) then you would be fine using a floating or click loc floating floor system.

If you did not like the raised edge that that overlap stair nose has then you would have use and nail or direct glue down flooring and use a "Flush" stair nose which has no raised edge.

All floating floors require overlap moldings to all the flooring to move slightly under the overlap portion of the molding.
