If someone is looking for a fast and easy job of up dating their flooring I would have to say that installing laminate flooring is one of the easiest DIY projects there is. The days of using messy glue to fasten the boards together are gone. All that is required to fasten most all laminate boards together is to simply fold them together one at a time using their quick locking system.

Can I install laminate flooring over fairly new carpet padding instead of using the laminate flooring underlayment pad?

Unfortunately, any carpet pad would be too thick and cause the laminate floor to compress when stepped on which could cause the floorboards to separate or the click loc system to break. We always recommend to use the proper laminate floor underlayment.

A neighbor used his left over carpet pad and once he installed the laminate floor it flexed so much it broke most of the tongue and grooves. he had to replace it.

Do it right the first time - he tried to save $60.00 for the correct pad.
